If you think you have a
medical problem, ask your
GP to help you. This will
give you a good indication
as to whether the
condition can be removed
altogether or how it can
be managed without too
much difficulty.
Hair
growth cycle
There are
different types of hair
growing on the body in
different places at
different ages. These
include Lanugo, Vellus and
Terminal hair. There are
also Asexual, Ambisexual
and Sexual hair.
Understand
it to get rid of it
Anagen is the
growing stage of the hair.
Catagen is the
transitional stage between
growing and becoming
dormant.
Catagen is the
transitional stage between
growing and becoming
dominant.
Telogen is the
stage when the hair is
inactive or
dormant.
An easy way to understand
how hair grows is to think
of it as the laundry. One
set of sheets is on the
bed, the other is in the
airing cupboard waiting to
be used and the third is
in the wash. There will
always be three lots of
hair to be treated
whatever removal method is
used.
Depending on where the
hair is growing on the
body, it is in the anagen
stage for approximately 13
weeks on the arms and up
to 6 years on the scalp.
(See Cosmetic and Medical
Electrolysis and Temporary
Hair Removal by R N
Richards MD, G E Meharg
RN, Medric Ltd 1991). The
hair you can see and treat
is usually in the anagen
stage. Then the next two
stages grow and need
treating at different
times.
